The predator saga continues with a new Sci-fi/Action film called “Prey”, which was directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who also produced the 2006 masterpiece, “10 Cloverfield Lane.” Dan is an American filmmaker and podcast host, he went on to win a Directors Guild of America Award nomination for Outstanding Directing for a First Time Feature Film, for his efforts in “10 Cloverfield Lane.” Considering that the recent Predators remake or reinvention, however it can be referred to as, were a bit of a letdown; Dan Trachtenberg took on the project with conviction because we finally have an independent predator movie that rivals the original Arnold Schwarzenegger film from 1987.
The setting plays a major role in the success of these movies because it was an idea that an alien came to earth somewhere in the rainforest, based on the origin Predator movie. Therefore, with one of the recent remakes having the existence of an alien species in a modern and civilize world, considering all the current weapons and ammunitions that are available to our militia, it makes the movie lack bit of realness. The new movie, Prey is the perfect adaptation of the predator movies and while others might say it’s the best one yet, the older audience would certainly agree that it rivals the original film.
The movie is apparently the fifth installment to the Predator franchise and happens to be a prequel to the first four films in the series. The setting of this Sci-fi Action-packed fest couldn’t be more original as it is set in 1719, and no better place than the Northern Great Plains of North America. Without going in depth and creating spoilers for those who have yet to see the movie, it must be said that the casting was superb for having a female playing the lead-role for the first time in the series.
Amber Midthunder, otherwise referred to as Naru in the film, played the lead role in the movie. Amber who is known for much smaller projects that includes regular roles in the FX series “Legion”, and a few other television shows, was absolutely superb in the movie. The stunningly beautiful actress captures the hearts of her audience, and her character is super exciting that it enables you to be engage throughout the movie. Watching top level movies at home can be daunting at times, due to interruptions from children and other things that might cause you to pause a few times, or perhaps not finish the movie. Prey would eliminate those annoyance and capture your attention to a point where you could pause the movie five or six times, and still be excited to come back and finished it. Prey is now streaming everywhere on Hulu.
